Mike got his first job in music when he was fourteen. He was a backstage concession manager at the Concord Pavilion in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was given an all access pass because he could play table tennis well.
One night, he passed Jerry Garcia backstage at a Bruce Hornsby concert and called out "Jerry!." Jerry turned around and said, "yeah?". Mike replied, "just checking, man." Jerry smiled and Mike went back to work. Mike found out later that was night Hornsby was asked to play with the Grateful Dead after the death of Brent Mydland.
A few weeks later, Gene Simmons showed Mike his tongue backstage at a Kiss concert.
A few weeks after that, Mike was fired for hustling BB Kings bass player in table tennis.
After those experiences, Mike knew he was bit by the music bug and he'd never work a real job again.
On a side note: Mike believes that AC/DC is simultaneously the most overrated and underrated band of all time. Mike urges you to dig into their catalog to see what he means.
